Working in a remote part of Canada
For several years FTC Canada has shipped truckloads of food and supplies to more than 50 reservations in Northern Ontario. For the past three summers, the children on the Mishkeegogamang reserve have enjoyed a three-week day camp.

Impact
Over $8.6 million in GIK was distributed throughout Canada with over $1.0 million going directly to First Nations families.

Unemployment rates in First Nation reserves in Northern Ontario are as high as 90%. Groceries cost three to four times more than in Southern Ontario, making it almost impossible for parents to provide adequate nutrition for their children.

Hardships can be overcome
Because of many of the hardships facing First Nation children and youth FTC Canada has worked alongside people in the Mishkeegogamang community to provide a quality summer day camp called Mish Adventures.

Attendance in 2009 climbed to 95 and we continued to focus programming on water activities including swimming lessons.

One of our main objectives of this program is to connect with First Nations youth and to begin supporting the community through a youth leadership training program.
